The worst thing about cocktail kits is it’s extremely hard to turn the snare strainer off or on in a hurry, well until now. Here’s how I did it. I used parts laying around ( I had a few spare throw off laying around) so it cost me nothing to do.

1- Strainer (cut down Pearl), 1- Internal Muffler (Muffler pulled off)

2- Kick Pedal Springs, 2- Key Rings, 1- Air Grommet, 1- String, 1-Snare Throw off.

The key ring to the right is held in place by the little “Bridge” piece that comes with the internal Muffler that the knob screws through. I just found a screw that fit and  mounted it to hold the key ring in place. The springs are latched through the holes on the strainer. The key ring on the left is mounted through the hole that was left after pulling off the muffler. The string is mounted to it and strung down though the air grommet and attached to the the snare throw off.

The spring tension is always fully on. Putting the throw off on turns the strainer off. Opposite the way a strainer usually works. The great thing about this is when packed away the strainer stays off and doesn’t get in the way of your road case.

The height or tension of the strainer can be adjusted by the throw off knob, same as a traditional snare.
